Maintain, repair, inspect, install, and replace mechanical, electrical, fire and life safety, and keys/security systems. Required to work independently at times, learn new skills, and assist other team members.

  • Perform standard preventative maintenance repairs and replacements of building systems, electrical, mechanical, and related components; test and evaluate performance.
  • Repair and maintain facilities structures, perform repairs and replacements of standard building systems and components, such as electrical, fire and life safety protection and systems. Maintain indoor/outdoor facilities, fans, lights, and related equipment.
  • Inspect, repair, install, service, and maintain various electrical systems including lighting and power circuits, control equipment, fixtures, lamps, ballasts, and switches.
  • Operate a variety of tools to include hand and power tools.
  • Respond to facility emergencies to ensure that all facilities are protected and remain operational.
  • Perform electronic recordkeeping related to maintenance and repairs so that the team makes the most efficient and effective use of computerized maintenance management and service request system, tracking and closing work orders.
  • Maintain appropriate records and reports.
  • Safely operate company vehicle and report any observed maintenance needs.
  • Attend all regular team meetings and participate in problem solving and other discussions.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members using a team approach.
  • Perform related duties as required within classification specifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Work can take place on roofs or require the use of a ladder.
  • High School Diploma/GED; Journeyman Electrician License
  • Knowledge of power and hand tools commonly used in facilities maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the use and application of materials for the work performed.
  • Understanding of job safety on the work site in the use of ladders and scaffolding.
  • Ability to estimate time and material costs on electrical projects.
  • May requisition new electric supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to make good sound decisions.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills along with good people skills.
  • Must be able to individually lift a minimum of 50 lbs., and be able to, with assistance, move and transport materials and equipment weighing more than 200 lbs.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus.
  • Possess the necessary physical requirements with or without the aid of mechanical devices to safely perform the duties and responsibilities of this position to include:
  • Possess a Driver’s License valid in the State of Alabama.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform simple arithmetic.
  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion with other employees, customers, and the public, including reasonable standards of personal appearance.
