This position functions as the coordinator for assigned marketing and communication activities for Orlean Beeson School of Education. Under the direction of the assistant vice president for marketing and communication and the dean of Orlean Beeson School of Education, the marketing and communication coordinator will establish and implement integrated marketing and communication plans to support the student recruitment, fundraising and reputation management goals of the school. The marketing and communication coordinator will manage assigned websites and social media accounts; write news releases and feature stories; collaborate with university advancement related to fundraising appeals and alumni communication; and work as an extension of the Division of Marketing and Communication to develop marketing strategies and materials to advance the academic programs and activities of the Orlean Beeson School of Education and Samford University.

In addition to providing marketing and communication leadership in Orlean Beeson School of Education, this individual will provide support to central marketing and communication as appropriate based on skills and experiences. 

This position will contribute to the overall success of Orlean Beeson School of Education and the Division of Marketing and Communication by managing assigned marketing and communication activities. Duties include the following: 

  1. Serve as a primary liaison between Orlean Beeson School of Education and the Division of Marketing and Communication
  2. Establish and implement marketing and communication plans within Orlean Beeson School of Education that ensure brand consistency and support of organizational goals. Consistently measure and report on the progress of these activities.
  3. Facilitate meaningful and strategic communication with prospective students, alumni, donors and friends through various communications channels, including newsletters, social media, webpages, direct mail and e-mail
  4. Coordinate, write and post content for assigned websites including taking responsibility for content that ensures strong, brand consistent messages and timely updates. Regularly review analytics.  
  5. Develop and post content for assigned social media accounts and regularly provide analytics
  6. Ensure that assigned academic programs, special projects and events within Orlean Beeson School of Education have appropriate marketing and promotional materials. In conjunction with deans and department chairs, regularly review pieces to ensure that they are accurate, timely and brand consistent. Create new materials as needed.
  7. Collaborate with the dean and university advancement to develop messaging and strategies for fundraising appeals and stewardship materials
  8. Write feature stories and news releases highlighting significant events, accomplishments and priorities. Work collaboratively with the media relations manager to review, edit and disseminate releases.
  9. Identify and foster opportunities to leverage faculty expertise in the media and maintain relationships with media in order to advance the mission of Orlean Beeson School of Education and Samford University.
  10. Coordinate advertising and unit specific merchandising needs in consultation with the Division of Marketing and Communication
  11. Retain a strong understanding of programs and practices related Orlean Beeson School of Education and its communication needs. Regularly communicate these to the greater university and external audiences as appropriate.
  12. Attend Orlean Beeson School of Education and university functions as appropriate to network with alumni and patrons
  13. Perform other duties as assigned
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Communications or related degree preferred
  • At least three years of demonstrated work experience in marketing, brand management or a communication related field
  • Ability to work independently and exercise prudent judgment in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional skills and demonstrated work experience in professional writing and editing for a variety of media, including news, feature, digital and social
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to work with a wide variety of constituents
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • A commitment to the Christian mission of Samford University
  • A positive, client-centric and service-oriented attitude is expected in daily work with a wide variety of internal and external constituents
  • Technical competence in the workings of website content management systems, social media monitoring systems, digital (web and social) analytics
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty and staff and to show interest and understanding of a wide array of academic programs
  • Ability to take initiative and employ creativity appropriately
  • Individual must have ability to work nights, and weekends as needed to ensure appropriate coverage of events and activities
