The position holder will provide key administrative support for the Office of Diversity and Intercultural Initiatives to meet the goals and objectives of the Office and Samford University, manage daily activities within the office and provide administrative support for the Associate Provost Student Success and Diversity, and perform a variety of duties of a complex and diverse nature that are confidential and sensitive, requiring some independent analysis.

  • Screen telephone calls and visitors, open mail, respond to/resolve routine issues and refer matters as appropriate for action.
  • Respond to external and internal requests in a timely fashion, including calendar management and meeting requests for the Associate Provost.
  • Provide support to office personnel through detailed communications and other activities related to office objectives.
  • Provide administrative support to the Associate Provost Student Success and Diversity.
  • Serve as liaison to other departments and external stakeholders on behalf of the Associate Provost, handling appropriately with a high level of care and confidentiality.
  • Provide frontline customer service to internal and external constituents.
  • Exercise excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Establish and maintain various filing and records management systems.
  • Perform general clerical duties including correspondence/reports, database entry, copying, filing, preparing mail, creating informational material, etc.
  • Manage and respond to items related to budget, purchasing, and other financial and university-wide processes to maintain office effectiveness.
  • Organize, set up, and coordinate various types of events as needed to meet the goals and objectives of the office, i.e. training initiatives, cultural events, camps, etc.
  • Maintain and update social media platforms for the Office of Diversity.
  • High school education and a minimum of 5 years' experience OR Bachelor's degree and 3 years' experience.
  • Computer Literacy (Microsoft) and ability to learn various computer software programs.
  • Proficient computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Positive and effective interpersonal skills to respond to a variety of constituents. 
  • Ability to effectively initiate and prioritize responsibilities and achieve results and outcomes consistent with the mission of the Office of Diversity and Intercultural Initiatives and Samford University.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision and to exercise individual initiative.
  • Effective decision-making, organizational, and problem-solving skills with particular attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks, prioritize work assignments, and complete them in a timely manner.
